           TASEQ EAST

Tonight's best find: Unusually vivid tugtupite from Taseq slope east. Non-FL grain at center is sphalerite.
Shown in daylight (top) and fluorescing under shortwave ultraviolet (bottom). Width 8 cm.

After 36 hours travel the goal is now finally within reach: Ilímaussaq looms in the background.

Along the way to Narsaq valley.. Icebergs in the early evening sun.

A strand of the Narsaq elv empties into the sea.

We've arrived. Tent city setup. Late sunshine illuminates upper Taseq slope.

Howie looks at our campground's smallest tent, pitched at right. This would soon prove to be a watercourse.

Howie & the author. Note the special fly vest, custom tailored for flood-stage waters.

Tonight's view. Looking towards Mt. Ilímaussaq (left) and the eastern side of Taseq slope (right).

No rest: we're on our way to explore. Mark crosses the Narsaq elv below Taseq slope east, all geared up.

Smile fades as my turn arrives. That is cold water.

Return. Mission successful, if blurry. It's now well after midnight and we're midway down Taseq slope east.

Return river crossing in the red light of an unearthly sunrise.

Sunrise along the Narsaq elv shortly after 3:00 a.m.

Some 'glory' rays just visible over Mt. Ilímaussaq as we make our way back down the valley to camp.
