This is a not-for-profit, informational website provided to share some of the beauty of the remarkable fluorescent minerals of Ilímaussaq, Greenland.

Their unique colors, complex form, peculiar chemistry and textural variety place them among our planet’s more fascinating natural creations.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Thanks to Mark Cole of minershop.com for sharing specimens, collecting stories, and location photos. Thanks to Prof. Henning Sørensen for kindly providing a copy of a classic report on the complex, and to Michael Marks of Tübingen University for sharing recent petrologic research.

VIEWING CAVEATS
This website has large graphics and so will be slow to load. It was tested on users with 32-bit color and current versions of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer® running under Windows. It may work correctly with others. Images will degrade at lesser video settings.

Note that many of the image files are large (~100Kb), as are the Macromedia Flash® animations. I’ve generally decided in favor of better graphics, rather than degrade the images by making them smaller. You’ll need high-speed access to keep the viewing experience fun.
